Cardiff University is giving staff a one-off £500 cost of living payment. The university said the money was to help them in the “unprecedented cost of living crisis”.
Vice chancellor Colin Riordan and other members of the university executive board are not eligible, the university confirmed. The payment will go to all staff on grades 1-8 including those on variable hours and postgraduate research students who help teaching.
The money in November’s salaries will be pro rata according to hours to those employed by the university on November 1.

“University Executive Board and Council have approved a one-off payment of £500 to be paid in the November payroll. This payment is being made given the unprecedented cost of living crisis,” a spokesperson said.
“It will be paid to all staff on Grades 1 – 8 and Clinical pay scales D1 and D2, (pro-rata for part time staff) who are in employment at the university on 1 November.”
Those who won’t get the payment include senior/professors paid on the senior Pay Scale or clinical consultants paid on the D6 clinical scale. Casual workers or those working for contractors via agencies or as consultancies also won’t receive it.
