Cardiff City transfer news as youngster leaves club on loan and duo 'won't be seen any time soon'

These are your Cardiff City headlines on Thursday, August 25.

King leaves on loan

Cardiff youngster Eli King has left the club and has joined League Two side Crewe until January 1.

King had been getting minutes for the under-21s and had been impressing for Darren Purse's side, but the decision has now been made for him to get regular game-time further down the footballing pyramid.

"It’s great," said Steve Morison. "Great for us as a football club. He’ll go and apply and learn his trade at Crewe. They play in a similar style to how we like to do so he’s not just gone anywhere. He’s got to go and learn in the fire down in League Two.

"It’ll be great for him. All the things we think he needs to work on and get better at, he gets to do on a Saturday with three points on the line."

Crewe assistant manager Lee Bell said: “He’s been on the radar for some time and we are happy to get it over the line.

“Cardiff were initially reluctant to let him out because he’s been in and around their squad throughout pre-season, so we had to be patient.

“He has plenty of pedigree and is just the type of player we have been looking for to add to the squad.”

Meanwhile, Morison says injured duo Ebou Adams and Isaak Davies won't be available any time soon.

Adams suffered a nasty injury in pre-season, while Davies has been out for some time after missing the entire summer schedule.

"Both coming back from injuries. Won’t see them any time soon," Morison added.

Burnley make Archer top target

Championship side Burnley have made Aston Villa's Cameron Archer their 'top target' before the transfer window closes.

Bluebirds boss Morison is on the lookout for a striker before the September 1 deadline, revealing he may well look to the loan market, but maintained at his pre-Preston press conference that he wouldn't sign a player just for the sake of it. Archer has been linked with the Bluebirds previously.

"If someone comes in and chucks me someone that will improve us of course we’ll take it," he said. "But there’s not really anything for me to tell you on that.

"Is there a manager in the football world that isn’t looking for example a centre-forward? Every team is having the same conversation. Every press is asking the same question and every team is giving the same answer. It’s always a topic of debate and it’s usually on the back of not scoring a goal."

Wolves boss' warning over Preston

Wolves manager Bruno Lage praised Cardiff's opponents this weekend Preston for giving "everything" in their Carabao Cup clash on Wednesday night.

The two teams faced off at Molineux, with the Premier League side winning 2-1, despite Wales' Ben Woodham pulling one back for the Lilywhites.

The visitors' determination will be something Morison and Co will have to counter on Saturday.

Lage said: “In the first half, what we did, it was good. When it went 2-0 and we didn’t score the penalty and then we give a chance for Preston to score, the game was unbalanced, but every time we tried to be in control of the game.

“I think we did 45 minutes at a top level because we didn’t give any chance to Preston to play their game, but we know how tough they are because five games without conceding goals, and today we had great chances to score a lot of goals. I know the spirit of the Championship, I know the spirit Preston and they are a team who is tough every time to play against, and they did everything."
