Cardiff City transfer news as Leeds United scout Sory Kaba and Erol Bulut names area Bluebirds 'have to invest in'

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Monday, June 5.

Leeds United scout Sory Kaba

Championship-bound Leeds United have scouted ex-Cardiff City striker Sory Kaba, according to Football League World.

Kaba was sensational for Cardiff last season, with his eight goals after signing on loan from Midtjylland a big part in keeping the Bluebirds afloat in the Championship.

And his form has not gone unnoticed, with Leeds reportedly having watched Kaba in action for City last term ahead of a potential move next summer.

With one year left on his Midtjylland contract, the hopes of Cardiff signing him are remote, because they are unable to pay fees for players and the Danish club are unlikely to allow him to leave on a loan in the final year of his deal.

Other Championship clubs will doubtless also have their eyes on him, with ex-Cardiff boss Sabri Lamouchi saying he was certain Kaba would stay in English football next term.

"He will play in the UK next season," Lamouchi said in April. "I don't know if it will be in Cardiff or somewhere else. We can be honest. Kaba is doing absolutely everything to touch his dream.. He deserves to be in the UK next season."

Erol Bulut: Cardiff 'must invest' in their attack

New Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut is eyeing up to 10 new signings to revamp a Bluebirds team which finished 21st in the division last season.

Bulut said he watched a couple of Cardiff games last season and is looking forward to meeting with the players when they report back for pre-season in a few weeks' time. However, he is under no illusion that the team needs reinforcements next season.

"I saw two games, so from there I already thought in my head that I had a system I wanted to play with the team. We have to discuss about that, but already I have in my head the players I want already," Bulut said. You can read everything he said here.

"We need in every department. Offensive department, Cardiff last season scored only 41 goals. Second bottom scorers.

"In attacking, we have to invest, in my opinion. Also in the midfield. Attacking is not only wingers, strikers, No.10. This will start from the back, from the goalkeeper.

"We have some players in our hand (to bring in). We will have to discuss about that. Some players we will have to search and make a start. I think from the club, their contracts are finished, seven of them.

"I have to see the players in training for the first 10 days to decide if they are players we will keep. I think around eight to 10 players can be possible."

Whitehead heading for Watford

Dean Whitehead appears to be heading for Watford to link up with their new manager Valerien Ismael.

Bulut announced he would be bringing in three of his own members of backroom staff this summer, with Whitehead seemingly heading for the exit door.

Whitehead's last job before joining Cardiff was at Besiktas with Ismael and it always seemed on the cards that he might link up with the former West Brom and Barnsley boss at his next gig.

Well, Ismael is now at Vicarage Road and it seems likely Whitehead, who is thought of highly within the club, will follow him.

"Dean, I think it's well known he has been approached by another club," chairman Mehmet Dalman said on Monday.

"We respect his decision whether he wants to go there or stay here. From what I know he hasn't made up his mind - but I think he is more or less done in terms of going. And we don't want to stand in his way, he has been a good servant here. We want to say thank you to him."

A conversation is still to be had with Sol Bamba over his future.

Niels Nkounkou signs for new club

Cardiff flop Niels Nkounkou turned his form on its head at the back end of last season and as a result has signed a permanent deal with St Etienne.

Nkounkou was signed by Steve Morison on the back of Jamilu Collins' season-ending injury, however his form was patchy at best - showing great endeavour going forward but struggling hugely when it came to defending.

But after being recalled by Everton in January, he was sent out to St Etienne and his form skyrocketed. He claimed six goals and eight assists in 19 games for the French club and was called up to France's under-21s squad.

He said last month: "I would like to fix myself in a project, not to find myself in uncertainty every summer, without knowing where I will do the season.

"I would like to find stability somewhere. In recent years, I’ve moved a lot, I’ve scattered a bit, and now I want to settle down.

"When you know that at the end of the season, you will surely no longer be there, that you will return to a club where you do not know if you will be able to stay even if you fight, it makes you think. It’s not always easy to live with, whether for me or for my loved ones, who follow me every time."

He has signed a three-year deal with the Ligue 2 club.
