Cardiff City transfer news as ex-Everton defender and Burnley trialist signs and club issue statement ahead of Middlesbrough tie

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, September 13.

Cardiff sign centre-back

Cardiff City have signed Danish defender Sebastian Kristensen after his release from Everton.

The centre-back, 19, has been on trial with the Bluebirds this summer and will initially come in as an under-21s player under Darren Purse. It is understood Kristensen also went on trial at Championship rivals Burnley this summer.

The Dane, who spent three years with Everton, has signed a one-year deal with the Bluebirds. He said: “It’s a great feeling to be here. I’m delighted to have joined and it’s a proud moment for myself.

“I’d like to say that I’ve got quality in the defensive side of the game, and try to read it well whilst looking to play out from the back. I want to be contributing to scoring goals where I can as well.

“It’s been brilliant with the boys and staff so far. They’ve really welcomed me in from the first day and the coaches have played a massive part in me joining the club. I’m really looking forward to working within the team this season now that I’m here!”

Under-21s boss Purse added: "As a squad we’re still young, so it’s nice to add more experience, as we’d already done with Cameron Antwi and Raheem Conte.

"Sebastian fits that mould; he’s come in from a Category 1 academy, has a very good profile and impressed on his trial. It’s now down to him to perform, as we look to give him a platform as we go through the season ahead.”

Club issues statement to fans

Cardiff City have urged supporters to be respectful to the minute's silence which will be observed at the Riverside Stadium ahead of tonight's Championship clash with Middlesbrough.

Wrexham issued a similar plea to their fans ahead of their own clash with Dagenham and Redbridge tonight and the Bluebirds have followed suit, asking City fans to leave their political views at the turnstiles.

The statement said: "Ahead of tonight’s Championship fixture between Middlesbrough and Cardiff City, a minute’s silence will be observed in memory of Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

"Alongside Cardiff City Supporters Club, we kindly ask our supporters who are travelling to the Riverside Stadium to respectfully observe the one-minute silence, irrespective of their personal or political opinion.

"With the eyes of the world currently focused on the United Kingdom following Her late Majesty’s passing, we urge our supporters to remain respectful of the opinions of others during this time of mourning across the country."

Tanner and Kristensen start in under-21s defeat

New-signing Kristensen as well as summer addition Ollie Tanner started in the under-21s' chastening defeat by Bristol City in the mini Severnside derby this lunchtime.

Cardiff named a fairly strong line-up for the clash with the Robins, with Jack Leahy, Cian Ashford and Joel Colwill all involved from the off, however they were outgunned over the Severn Bridge.

Tommy Blackwell and Sam Bell each bagged a brace in the first half as City went down the tunnel 4-0 behind at the break.

Dylan Kadji rounded off the scoring for the hosts after the break, making it a 5-0 drubbing for Purse's side.

The Bluebirds have now won three and lost three in a mixed start to their Professional Development League 2 competition.

Cardiff City XI : Turner; Semenyo, Kristensen, Benjamin, T. Davies; Antwi, J. Colwill, Ashford; Wigley, Leahy, Tanner.

Subs : Jefferies, Dennis, Hughes, Crole, Conte.
