Cardiff City transfer news as Derby County eye Bluebirds player and Bellamy lined up by Burnley

Here are the Cardiff City headlines for Sunday, June 5.

Derby in for James Collins

Derby County are reportedly interested in signing Cardiff City striker James Collins.

Collins signed for the Bluebirds on a free transfer a year ago after leaving Luton Town upon the expiration of his contract. He was a player Mick McCarthy knew well owing to their time together with the Republic of Ireland team, however it's safe to say the forward failed to hit the ground running.

The 31-year-old had to wait 15 league games for his first Cardiff goal and managed just three in 30 games in all competitions. He fell out of favour under Steve Morison, though, especially when the January transfer window rolled around and Cardiff were able to pick up Jordan Hugill and Uche Ikpeazu, as well as recalling Max Watters from his loan at MK Dons.

There was always a question mark hanging over the striker's future heading into this summer, given he appears to have fallen towards the bottom of the pecking order, and it looks as though Wayne Rooney is looking to take advantage of the situation.

According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the Rams are eyeing up a move for Collins. Derby, of course, are in some financial strife as things stand and they are thought to be mulling over a loan deal or even potentially hoping that Cardiff terminate his contract in order to nab him on a free.

It comes after Derby were also linked with a move for free agent Aden Flint, who leaves Cardiff this summer after three years in the Welsh capital.

Bellamy lined up by Burnley

Sticking with Nixon, he also claims that Vincent Kompany is looking to bring in Craig Bellamy as part of his coaching staff at Burnley.

As things stand, Kompany is still the manager of Belgian side Anderlecht, however it is widely reported he is set to take the reins at Turf Moor following the departure of Sean Dyche. If that transpires, Kompany is supposedly keen on a reunion with Bellamy.

Bellamy, of course, was the under-21s manager at Anderlecht until last summer, when it was announced he would leave the role to come back to the UK and be closer to his family.

The 42-year-old previously held coaching roles within the Bluebirds' academy before leaving under a cloud of bullying allegations, following which the club conducted an investigation into its coaching practices.

But Bellamy was even tentatively linked with Cardiff's first-team manager job following the sacking of McCarthy, however that was all played down by the club at the time. Should he be ready to get back into the game, though, it looks like Burnley could be the route, if Kompany is announced as the new boss as he is expected to be.

Given Burnley were relegated from the Premier League last term, it would mean Bellamy would be in the opposite dugout when Cardiff and the Clarets meet in the Championship next season.

Colwill and Denham out

Rubin Colwill and Oliver Denham have been confirmed as two of the five players who have missed out on Rob Page's 23-man Wales squad to take on Ukraine today.

Colwill wasn't included in the 2-1 defeat by Poland earlier this week, however Denham was named on the bench.

There were always going to be changes for the World Cup play-off final against Ukraine, though, and Cardiff duo Colwill and Denham are two players who make up the collateral damage for the big guns to come back into the reckoning. Matt Smith, Dylan Levitt and Wes Burns also miss out.

Mark Harris, who came on in Wroclaw, is part of the squad and will hope to play at least some part in proceedings at Cardiff City Stadium today.
