Cardiff City transfer headlines as Leeds United give Bluebirds Drameh hope and Robert Glatzel wanted after stunning form

These are your Cardiff City headlines on Tuesday, March 22.

Leeds target new right-back

Leeds United are targeting two new full-backs this summer.

That will be music to the ears of Cardiff, who would be more than happy to retain the services of loan star Cody Drameh for another season. The young defender has been a sensation in south Wales, putting in freakish performances and adding an attacking dimension to the Bluebirds on the flanks, which you can read more about here.

WalesOnline understands that Drameh would be open to staying in the Welsh capital next term, with the youngster enjoying his time on loan at Cardiff City Stadium. The Athletic report that new Leeds boss Jesse Marsch will look to add full-backs when the transfer window opens, with first-choice right-back Luke Ayling struggling for consistent form at times this season.

The Elland Road club are also looking for competition for Junior Firpo on the left, who will have to wait until their top-flight status is assured before deciding upon budgets and targets. Should they stay up, the possibility of Drameh going out on loan once again will increase, according to our colleagues at LeedsLive. You can read more about that here.

Should Drameh be available, manager Steve Morison will no doubt be at the front of the queue for his signature. For the latest transfer news sent straight to your inbox, sign up to our newsletter.

Glatzel attracting interest

Former Cardiff striker Robert Glatzel's form with Hamburger SV is attracting interest from Bundesliga clubs.

The 28-year-old has scored 20 goals already this season and is aiming to hunt down second division record scorer Simon Terodde, who hit 24 last term. Glatzel still has eight games of the current campaign to go, and his stunning form has alerted teams in the German top flight.

Hamburger SV are in no need to sell, however, with the striker contracted until the summer of 2024. Reports in Germany state that it would take an offer of more than €3million for them to "think again".

It was always a case of "what if?" for the German when he was in south Wales, with him never really getting to grips with the rigours of Championship football. But there can be no denying his goalscoring attributes, with his strikes helping Hamburger SV to sixth place as things stand.

Warnock waves off ref Dean

Ex-Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock says referee Mike Dean is retiring 10 years too late.

The Wirral whistler is set to pack away his cards at the end of the current season after forging something of a celebrity reputation. A role with VAR is being touted for next term for Dean, and Warnock, who clashed with the official numerous times while in the dugout at various clubs, couldn't help but poke fun at him.

He told talkSPORT: "[It’s] 10 years too late! That’s the problem, it’s not going to help me, is it? I haven’t got time to go through the ones he’s given me over the years, but don’t forget I’m always with a little club so Mike, like some of the other referees, tends to go with the bigger clubs.

“Listen, he’s as good as anything. He has great games and I look at him and think that he doesn’t have to do what he does. He almost does things in a game to put himself out there when he doesn’t have to. 'A good referee was never seen’ my dad used to say to me, and he could referee like that, but he always has to do that extra bit for some reason to get himself in the limelight. Overall he’s a very good referee. He knows everything about it, but he just gets carried away.”
