Cardiff City's Championship safety confirmed after Reading's draw with Wigan

Cardiff City Cardiff Reading Wigan Sabri Lamouchi

Cardiff City will be playing Championship football next season after Reading's 1-1 draw with Wigan secured the Bluebirds' safety.

The result at Select Car Leasing Stadium means Cardiff have avoided demotion to League One with two games to spare. Wigan, (24th), Blackpool (23rd) and Reading (22nd) can now no longer catch them. The Latics are relegated.

The three points City secured late on at Rotherham United on Thursday proved crucial.
