Here are the Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, September 6.
Mark McGuinness a 'wonderful' addition, says Owls boss
Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has branded all three of his loan signings, including Mark McGuinness, "wonderful acquisitions" and believes there is a January break clause.
The Bluebirds allowed the centre-back to move to Hillsborough for the season, with Steve Morison believing a year up in Yorkshire would benefit both him and Cardiff in the long term. And so it is proving thus far, with the former Arsenal man having gained a few admirers during his five appearances for the Owls.

Depending on how the season goes, Cardiff might look at recalling the 21-year-old in January and Moore also added that there are some break clauses in the loan terms for some of his players.
“There possibly is a break clause with a couple of them. I’d have to check them again to be absolutely clear but all of them are season-long loans," he told the Sheffield Star.
“All three of them are wonderful acquisitions really in what they can give us, Reece (James), Mark and Alex (Mighten), in terms of what they bring on board. All three of them are chomping at the bit in terms of playing games and they’ve certainly added to what we have in the squad.”
Craig Bryson retires
Former Bluebirds midfielder and promotion winner back in 2018 Craig Bryson has announced his retirement from the game at the age of 35.
Bryson, an ex-Scotland international, was brought in by Neil Warnock back in 2017 and he played 22 times for the Bluebirds as they earned promotion to the Premier League.
Bryson is a Derby County legend, having represented the club between 2011 and 2019, while he also played for Clyde, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Stenhousemuir and the Scottish national team.
The ex-midfielder announced his retirement on Twitter, saying: "All good things come to an end. 610 appearances and out."
Loan round-up
Let's start with McGuinness, as we've already mentioned him, he was the "pick of the bunch" for the Owls at the back as the succumbed to a 2-0 home defeat by Barnsley.
In their player ratings, our sister title, ExaminerLive, wrote: "Probably the pick of the bunch in defence. Did his job with a minimum of fuss. Came off just after the hour mark as Wednesday threw caution to the wind."
It was another defeat for Newport County and Chanka Zimba, who only came on for the final 11 minutes of the Exiles' 2-0 defeat by Grimsby Town at the weekend. He is still yet to score in a league game for James Rowberry's side after six League Two appearances, however he is yet to start a game.
Eli King played another full 90 minutes, but it was yet another defeat for City's out-on-loan players. Crewe Alexandra lost 2-1 to Stevenage, with King picking up a booking in the 41st minute.
It was left to Kieron Evans to pick up the only victory of the weekend for the loan players, with Torquay United running out 2-1 victors over Southend United. The winger played 70 minutes in that one, his third start in six games.
Under-21s result
Cardiff City under-21s came out on top up in Wigan on Monday afternoon with a toughly-fought 2-1 victory over a strong-looking Latics side.
Jack Leahy, a player who impressed in pre-season, netted on the quarter-of-an-hour mar before the hosts restored parity just before half time.
However, it was captain Xavier Benjamin who popped up with a last-gasp winner in the 90th minute to get City back on the winning trail.
After the game, manager Darren Purse said: “To a man, we were excellent. We worked so much harder than we had in the last couple of games, and they’ve set a level that they now need to reach on a game-by-game basis. The work-rate and effort was exceptional, and some of the play that we produced was really good, so they need to keep to those levels going forwards.
“It was great to see the togetherness in the squad. When Xavier scored the winner, you could see what it meant to everyone in the squad, including the subs who came on to do their bit for the team.
“It was a great performance; the boys had clearly taken on board everything that Matthew Bloxham and myself had said to them with how we wanted to play this one out, and it was a thoroughly deserved result.”
Cardiff have won three and lost two of their opening five games, leaving them fourth in the PDL2 Group B table.

Nelson pays club a visit
And finally, a nice little post from Talbot Green FC to show Cardiff defender Curtis Nelson taking some time out of his schedule to go and watch the juniors training.
The centre back has been jettisoned from the squad after two poor early-season performances, but is likely working hard to force his way back into the fray.
The Bluebirds star, though, did spare some time for a local club, who on Monday tweeted: "Big thank you to Curtis Nelson of Cardiff City (for) taking time out to come down and see the junior section this evening."
