Cardiff City news as manager rules himself out of Bluebirds job and Newport County call on ex-Bluebirds boss

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City news for Friday, September 30.

Ince dismisses Cardiff links

Paul Ince insists he's happy at Reading, despite speculation linking him with the hot-seat at Cardiff City.

Reports had recently suggested that Ince, who's overseen an impressive start to the campaign with the Royals, was among the names being considered by the Bluebirds hierarchy in light of the recent departure of Steve Morison.

Mark Hudson has taken over on an interim basis, and looks set to be handed a run of games in a bid to impress, but that hasn't ruled out several other names being mentioned.

Ince was reportedly one of those names, but he has seemingly dismissed the possibility of leaving Berkshire any time soon.

"When you get these rumours, it says the team is doing well," he explained. "That’s a good thing from a player's point of view. Every manager goes to a club and they sit down with the owners and say they’ve got a project [but] 10 weeks later you’re out of a job.

"Look at someone like Rob Edwards at Watford. He must’ve spoken [to the club's owners] and said we’ve got a project; within 10 games he’s gone. It’s pure madness.

"I’ve always said that where we have a (transfer) window for players, we should have windows for managers to get sacked. We’ve got no security or guarantee. We’re talking about some managers bringing kids from north to south and go to school, all that, and within 10 weeks they’re gone. When the window shuts for signing players, it should shut for managers.

"We need to pick up results and keep the team in the league but when we lost to Sunderland 3-0 there was no booing - I feel I have more time to achieve what I want to achieve here than anywhere else. I wouldn’t say I feel complacent, but I feel happy here. The owner lets us get on with it and has put a lot of money into the club."

"I worked with Karl Oyston at Blackpool, and it wasn’t a great experience," he added. "This owner (Reading's Dai Yongge) lets us get on with it. We’re trying to bring the fans closer to the players. Why would I want to leave that?

"If you look at my managerial career, I’ve been at clubs for eight months, never for more than two or three years. I feel more confident in what we’re trying to do to make it a special club. It can be a special club. It will take time, like anything, but I feel I will get more time than most managers to achieve what I want to achieve at this football club."

Kompany unsure of Cardiff challenge

Vincent Kompany admits Burnley will likely be going in blind when they take on Cardiff City this weekend.

The Clarets visit the capital on Saturday to take on a Bluebirds side under the stewardship of interim boss Mark Hudson for the first time, following the recent sacking of Steve Morison.

It's a move that sparked a fair amount of shock among Cardiff fans, and has also complicated Burnley's preparations for the game.

"Usually, it is difficult to align reality with ambitions," Kompany said. "I have watched a lot of Cardiff's games and it seemed to be like they were doing some good things, but it goes like this sometimes.

"It's a new manager now, who gets a chance, and a young manager as well, who I am sure will have a good career. I have done my homework on the players and know which options they have.

"I am like every other manager - trying to get as much information as I can. There is only so much you can guess. I am not intending on starting a new 'spygate' so I fully accept that we will go into the game with only pieces of information. We'll be ready to adapt."

Rowberry calls upon ex-Cardiff boss

Newport County boss James Rowberry says he's been picking the brains of his former Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope in a bid to kickstart their season in League Two.

County have taken just eight points from their first 10 games and sit in 18th place, with just three points separating them from the bottom. Despite being a highly-rated coach, Rowberry is still something of a managerial novice and has decided to put his contacts book to work.

“I've got about three or four different people that I lean on,” said Rowberry. “They are all really helpful with where I am at in my career and what I am trying to do.

“Paul is one of those, I worked closely with him and he has been in the building for the last week. I have had that before with other people with different members of staff that I have worked with previously coming in to help me.

“Paul is someone I trust a lot and is another set of eyes for me at times. On an ad hoc basis he pops in to support me.”

Johnson named Brackley boss

Former Cardiff City star Roger Johnson has been appointed the new first-team manager of Brackley Town.

Johnson will link up with Stephen Ward, who joins as his assistant manager, with both men set to be in the dugout for the clash with AFC Fylde on October 8. Johnson made more than 600 senior appearances as a player, starting at Wycombe Wanderers before joining Cardiff back in 2006.

He then went on to play for Birmingham City, Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham and Charlton, before signing on with National League side Bromley in 2017.

It was there he started his coaching journey, first taking charge as the club's under-23s boss, before joining the first team coaching staff in April 2021.

Cardiff tipped for defeat

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has tipped Cardiff City to slump to a narrow defeat at home to Burnley on Saturday.

Predicting a 1-0 win for the Clarets, he wrote : "I must admit I was a little disappointed to see Steve Morison dismissed. Not much surprises me anymore in this league, but considering the job he was given to overhaul the squad and the playing style, it was always going to take time. You just don’t get that in the Championship when you aren’t getting results.

"Burnley have given Vincent Kompany the time to rejig a squad and a style, albeit with more resources, and they are well placed heading into the run up to the World Cup. I fancy them to nick this one."
