Cardiff City news as Lamouchi explains why Colwill isn't being picked and Aston Villa starlet reveals who his 'big brother' is

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Thursday, March 16.

Jaden Philogene reveals his 'big brother' at Cardiff City

Jaden Philogene has described Romaine Sawyers as his "big brother" at Cardiff City.

The pair played together at Stoke City while on loan last year and the Aston Villa loanee has revealed that Sawyers has helped him settle into life in south Wales.

"I was with Romaine at Stoke last season, so I already knew him from there and he's like a big brother to me here.

"Him, Rallsy and some of the other older guys have obviously been in the game longer than me and they've been playing in this league a lot longer than I have, so I always try and take on board the advice they give me and add it to my game."

Philogene has had to adjust to a number of things while at Cardiff, including managerial and positional changes. He has played as a winger, a wing-back and in a playmaker role, but which does he prefer?

"I don't mind," he said. "Obviously, playing No.10 give you that freedom to go anywhere on the pitch and I enjoy that side of it.

"But, being on the right wing you need to do the defensive work here and there, but when we're dominating the ball it's more like being an out-and-out winger rather than a wing back. I've always enjoyed doing that dirty work and it's always been a part of my game to do both sides.

"I like having that spark, not holding back and being given that freedom on the pitch. There's still a long way to go and I'd still like to get a few more goals and assists before the end of the season.

"If I keep working hard, it will come. I'm not too far off my personal target for the season, so if I get a few more contributions I'll be happy."

Lamouchi: We know exactly what Colwill needs

Sabri Lamouchi has held talks with Rubin Colwill following his omission from Rob Page's Wales squad and believes he know exactly what the youngster needs in order to get the best out of him.

The playmaker has barely been seen since the turn of the year and has had to settle for a place on the bench under Lamouchi since he took the reins.

It's no doubt been disappointing, and being left out of the Wales squad will also compound that, of course, but Lamouchi reiterated that he believes the player is important to the squad.

"For Rubin, I spoke with him. It's probably because he hasn't played too much. He was injured, he was not so good," Lamouchi said after Colwill was left out of the Wales squad.

"So, we know exactly what he needs. he is young, but we need him.

"Just like Mark (Harris). He came on in the second half (against West Brom) and he helped us to get the result and it was very positive."

Robinson omitted from Ireland squad

Fresh concerns over Callum Robinson's fitness have emerged after he was omitted from the Republic of Ireland's 26-man squad for their upcoming games against Latvia and France later this month.

Cardiff initially thought Robinson would be fit for the Swansea City game after the international break, but the Irish medical team clearly have not deemed him fit enough for their own upcoming camp later this month, leaving Bluebirds fans sweating on the availability of their top scorer as they reach the crunch point of the season.

Callum O'Dowda, however, is named in the Irish squad for the matches.

Romeo: We need to back this up at Rotherham

Mahlon Romeo urged his team-mates to back up a well-earned point against West Brom with a win at Rotherham to help ease the pressure on the club's relegation battle.

The Bluebirds travel to Yorkshire to take on fellow relegation strugglers Rotherham this weekend in a huge clash in the battle for survival.

After 10 points in six games, Cardiff want to go into the international break on the back of a positive result and Romeo is gunning for the three points at the weekend.

"It was definitely a well earned point. It was always going to be tough, with the weather impacting the pitch against a really good team.," Romeo said of the West Brom game.

"It will prove very worthwhile in the end. We know we have to back up this point on Saturday. We need to make sure it meant something.

"It will be a completely different game. It'll be up to us to get in that mindset, turn things around and go again."

Tanner training with England international

Ollie Tanner will be training with former England and Tottenham star Danny Rose for the foreseeable.

The free agent left-back, who many Bluebirds supporters felt Cardiff should have taken a punt on in January, is training with non-League side York City, according to The Sun.

Tanner is having a tough time of it in Yorkshire, having played just 16 minutes in the last six games for the relegation strugglers.

However, training alongside a left-sided player of Rose's pedigree can only be a positive for the young winger.
