Cardiff City news as Bluebirds get significant Rubin Colwill update and youngsters get hammered at Millwall

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Monday, October 31.

Colwill inching closer to return

Mark Hudson says Wales international Rubin Colwill is closing in on a return to first-team action, but he remains a doubt for Wednesday night's clash with Watford.

The 20-year-old hasn't played a single minute of football under the current interim boss, but is seemingly edging closer to getting back to full fitness.

"Rubin had an opportunity to be on the grass with the physios today, which is good news," Hudson said. We've got a plan for him to train from now on, which is good.

"He has had a big growth spurt, but when he came back from Wales he tweaked a muscle high up on his hip. Luckily, it was something that could settle down, but then there was a little bit of a pocket of fluid that was causing a little bit of discomfort.

"So that was something we needed to get eradicated, which we've done. The physios have done a good job with that. It's now about building him up, keeping him on the grass regularly.

"It was his first day on the grass today. So it's about getting him on the grass every day. It's been a little bit longer than what we wanted, but the good news he's on the grass. He's just got his protocols before he can tick off before he can train with us, which won't be too long. Maybe a couple of days. Then, it's about getting him in and around the squad.

"We want to get him on the grass as soon as we can, but don't want to push him so he breaks down."

Hudson eyeing further improvement

Mark Hudson insists he was delighted by his side's performance in the dominant 1-0 win over Rotherham United on Saturday, but is still set to demand more from his players ahead of a gruelling run of games before the World Cup break.

The Bluebirds created plenty of chances against the Millers at the Cardiff City Stadium, and probably should have scored more goals. But, after what Hudson himself admitted was a tough week, the three points means City head into Wednesday night's clash with Watford a little more upbeat.

"The result was just, for the way we played," Hudson said. "We were quite dominant in the game. We've had a chance to review it and there are some bits we can do better. But we had to be patient and wait to break a team down, which is something that maybe we've struggled with before.

"But it was good to get the goal. We could have maybe seen the game out a little bit better, maybe have been a little more front foot and then try and score another.

"But where we've been in terms of the tough week we've had before, I thought it was a really opportunity to bounce back and that's what we did."

Young Bluebirds hammered

Cardiff City's under-21s were swept aside by Millwall on Monday afternoon, with the Lions cruising to a 5-0 win in the English capital.

The Lions were ahead after just six minutes when Tom Leahy headed home, before a second-half blitz saw them net two goals inside four minutes.

First, Nana Boateng turned home on 47 minutes, before Sashiel Adom-Malaki rattled one in from 20 yards.

The hosts were firmly in control, and added a fourth through Abdul Abdulmalik just after the hour mark, before Morgan Lewis sliced into his own net eight minutes from time.

Stroud to take control of Hornets clash

Keith Stroud is set to take charge Cardiff City's clash with Watford on Wednesday.

The referee has officiated in 14 games so far this season, 11 of which have been in the Championship. So far, he's shown a total of 76 yellow cards and 2 reds.

Ian Cooper and George Byrne are set to the assistant referees, while Matt Donohue will be the fourth official.
