Cardiff City headlines as manager makes feelings clear to board over Sean Morrison contract and duo out of Peterborough clash

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, February 8.

Morison makes feelings clear to board of Sean Morrison

Steve Morison has already made his views clear to the board about Sean Morrison's future, with the club captain both injured and out of contract at the end of the season.

Morrison's campaign came to an abrupt end last week when it was confirmed his ACL injury would rule him out for the remainder of the season.

The Bluebirds centre back, 31, sees his deal expire in June, meaning if no resolution is found he has played his final game for the Welsh capital city club.

But manager Morison has said he has already told the board what he thinks should happen with the skipper and an update on that should be given in due course.

"It’s football unfortunately," Morison said of the skipper's injury.

"Normally they are very innocuous, those kinds of things.

"He didn't come in the first day after it, but he came in Saturday before we left for Liverpool and has been in every day since and is very much part of what we are doing.

"He is still captain of this football club and he will be a positive influence around the place.

"I told him yesterday I will and I have spoken to the board, so we will see what that looks like for him going forward.

"When we know something and a decision is made we will communicate that to everyone else."

Ralls and Nelson updates issued

Joe Ralls and Curtis Nelson are both ruled out of Wednesday night's clash with Posh.

The Bluebirds duo have missed the last few games owing to niggling injuries and are set to miss another this week.

However, both have been back out on the training ground and don't look too far away from a return.

"Joe was on the grass yesterday for the first team but he hasn't been on the grass for a week, so tomorrow may come too soon," the boss said.

"Nels was on the grass for the first time yesterday as well but just doing running.

"He has still got a bit of pain in the top of his calf. So we just take each day as it comes with them."

Denham and King unlikely to be involved against Posh

Youngsters Oliver Denham and Eli King are unlikely to feature against Peterborough on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old pair were praised for their performances on full debut against Liverpool up at Anfield on the weekend, prompting many, of course, to want to see them involved immediately in the first-team fold.

However, it's not simply a case of ripping things up and plonking them into the starting XI for the foreseeable.

It was an invaluable experience for them both, but they will not be starting against Posh, Morison has said.

"We will manage them in the best way to make sure that in the longevity of this football club and for the longevity of their careers, they are in a much better place," Morison said.

"Oliver Denham was magnificent, arguably man of the match, Eli King was excellent in his role. Will they be involved tomorrow night? Probably not. That's the reality of the situation they are in.

"Will they be involved in first-team training every day? Yes. Will they be involved if we need them? They are definitely in a better place now than they were before the weekend."

U23s defeated by QPR

Darren Purse awaits his first victory as Cardiff City under-23s manager after QPR came away with a 2-0 win at Leckwith on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bluebirds were forced to field an incredibly inexperienced side for the match against the west London outfit, missing a number of their players.

Under-23s regulars Keenan Patten, Kieron Evans, James Connolly and Chanka Zimba are all on loan away from the club, while Oliver Denham and Eli King were not involved following their exploits with the first team against Liverpool at the weekend.

It meant Cardiff fielded largely a team of under-18s, while QPR, who are bottom of the table, put out a far more experienced side.

And the experience told, with goals from Hamzad Kargbo, who sent a bullet header home in the first half, and Joe Gubbins, who netted after the break, consigned Cardiff to defeat.

Cardiff's depleted under-23s side have now gone five games without victory, but remain atop of the Professional Development League 2 south table owing to their tremendous start to the campaign.
