Cardiff City headlines as fuming QPR boss 'loses his rag', Doyle absence explained and forgotten man back after 137 days

These are your Cardiff City headlines on Sunday, March 6.

Warburton slams his players and loses rag

Furious QPR boss Mark Warburton said his side played at "testimonial pace" in the second half against Cardiff.

The Bluebirds produced the goods after the break in west London, with Morison's substitutions changing the game to turn the game around.

The introduction of Isaak Davies and Ruben Colwill gave them added energy, with Warburton admitting that his side's display had ruined the weekend and the days to come for him and supporters.

“We lost it by dropping the tempo and playing at a testimonial pace after 50 minutes," he said.

“We were thinking it was almost too easy to move the ball and giving a good opponent too much time and not enough respect, and we paid the price for that. Plain and simple.

“We were dominant in the first half, got the goal, should have got the second and all we had to do was maintain our tempo.

“I don’t lose my rag often but that was not us in the second half. We can’t be that. We can’t accept that.

“We just dropped to testimonial pace and that’s not acceptable. There’s no excuses.

“That’s ruined the weekend and days beyond that. If it doesn’t hurt you shouldn’t be in the camp.”

Doyle absence explained

Tommy Doyle missed out on Cardiff's trip to London on Saturday through illness.

When the teamsheet was handed out at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, Doyle's name was notably absent, such has been his form of late.

After the game, Morison shed some light on the situation.

"He's ill. I think he left everything out there on Tuesday!" Morison said, speaking of Doyle's man-of-the-match display against Derby County.

"Wednesday he wasn't that great. Thursday he didn't come outside because he was poorly. He came out Friday morning to train and he spent most of the time bent over in pain and I just went 'do you know what, we've got a team, we've got a squad, go home and we'll see you in the week'. Hopefully we'll come home with three points."

And they did, with Doyle posting on Twitter on Saturday night a blue-hearted emoji.

Murphy back after 137 days

Josh Murphy made his first appearance in 137 days when he came off the bench for Preston in their win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Murphy's loan move to the Lilywhites has been plagued by injury, with this being just his eighth run-out for the Deepdale outfit.

His last game was a 2-1 win over Coventry City back in October, and the same scoreline was replicated against the Cherries.

Our colleagues at LancsLive rated him a six out of 10 yesterday, saying: "After such a long time out, he understandably was a bit safe at first but grew in confidence and was disciplined at right wing-back. Picked the right passes and had a couple of runs."

During the week Murphy spoke to Preston's in-house media team to reveal how he was getting on in his comeback from injury.

"Really good," he said. "I'm looking forward to everything, I'm stepping up my recovery at the moment. I'm happy and enthusiastic and just ready to crack on now.

"It was nice to stretch my legs (in a reserve game against Fleetwood), obviously being four months without a game. It was nice to be out there with some of the boys again."

Cardiff face Preston next weekend, but Murphy will be ineligible to feature due to the terms of his loan deal.

Goal and another assist for Whyte

Gavin Whyte's good form continued on Saturday, with the on-loan Bluebirds man scoring his first goal of the season.

The Northern Irishman appears to have made the No.10 role at Oxford United his own, and even more telling than his superb finish was the fact he picked up yet another assist, taking him to 10 for the campaign so far.

The U's ran out 4-1 winners over Burton Albion, with Cardiff's Ciaron Brown also featuring for Karl Robinson's side.

The U’s head coach said: “We came out firing, we came out playing really well.

“We were exceptional in that period and we were very pleased with our front-foot play.

“I thought we were very difficult to play against for large parts of that game.

“The second half was always going to be after the Lord Mayor’s show, but the players were very professional.”
