Cardiff City headlines as ex-Bluebirds duo out of Preston clash and icon hugely excited by Colwill and Davies talent

Here are your Bluebirds headlines for Thursday March 10

Murphy and Cunningham miss Cardiff return

Former Cardiff City stars Josh Murphy and Greg Cunningham will be absent when their new club Preston head to the Welsh capital this weekend.

Murphy has recently recovered from an injury issue but is prohibited from playing in the game as part of the terms which saw him loaned out by Steve Morison to Preston.

Left-back Cunningham has shaken off a calf problem but has been affected by an Achilles injury, so he too is out.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe said: "Greg, we thought we'd have back this week, but he will probably be another four or five days.

"His calf injury was fine and it's his Achilles. So it's more a precaution - holding him back a couple of days."

Ridsdale's foot in two camps

Former Bluebirds boss Peter Ridsdale is set to return this weekend to the club's Cardiff City Stadium home he played such a pivotal role in helping to build.

Cardiff were struggling to get a deal over the line for their state-of-the-art new ground as they looked to move from Ninian Park.

Ridsdale was brought on board and acted as a conduit between the local council, developers and football bodies to ensure planning permission went ahead.

He could come back to the director's box on Saturday in his guise as an advisor to Preston.

Ridsdale was Cardiff chairman from 2006-2010, replacing Sam Hammam, and under his watch the Bluebirds reached the FA Cup final and challenged for promotion to the Premier League.

He has retained a strong affinity for Wales' capital city club.

Since leaving Cardiff, Ridsdale was involved with Plymouth and more recently Saturday's opponents Preston.

He was chairman of the Lancashire club before leaving the role and becoming an advisor to the owners.

Ledley calls for Colwill AND Davies to play

Cardiff City icon Joe Ledley wants to see exciting young guns Rubin Colwill and Isaak Davies in Steve Morison's Bluebirds team every week.

The gifted Academy aces inspired last week's fightback against Queens Park Rangers and Ledley hopes they are involved versus Preston.

He also sees the pair of them making Rob Page's Wales squad for the looming World Cup qualifier with Austria towards the end of the month.

That game also takes place at Cardiff City Stadium.

"I think they've done enough," said Ledley. "It's important for them now to be playing week in, week out and showing the world what they can do."

Bluebirds look to soar up table

Cardiff City have a chance to start soaring up the Championship table as they seek to take advantage of three back-to-back home games in front of their own fanatical supporters.

The Bluebirds welcome Preston to Cardiff City Stadium this weekend, then clash with Stoke at home on Wednesday night.

After the international break, as Wales meet Austria at the venue, the Bluebirds are home again when they seek South Wales derby revenge over Swansea City.

Cardiff then go to Reading and Hull, before hosting Luton in the Welsh capital.

It is a sequence of matches Steve Morison and his team will be looking for a bumper points haul from which would give a different dynamic to the table.

Their last four matches are then home to Birmingham and away at Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Derby.

Morison knows the importance of more victories as Cardiff seek momentum heading into the summer transfer window and then next season.
