Cardiff City and Barnsley charged following tunnel melee at Oakwell

Cardiff City and Barnsley have been charged by the Football Association for their respective roles in the tunnel melee that marred Wednesday's bad-tempered clash at Oakwell.

Members of both sides appeared to be involved in a scuffle at full time, which came shortly after Cardiff boss Steve Morison was seen saluting the jubilant Bluebirds fans who had just seen their team claim a valuable 1-0 win.

The flash point came when Morison appeared to be involved in an altercation with Tykes assistant boss Joseph Laumann, who took umbrage with the Cardiff manager's attempts to usher him down the tunnel.

Laumann appeared to nudge Morison, a moment that saw Cardiff players rush to their manager's aid, sparking a scrum in the tunnel.

Footage of the incident circulated widely on social media, although Morison himself was keen to play it down when quizzed on it all before his side's clash with Liverpool.

However, The FA has clearly taken a different view, and has decided to charge both clubs.

In a statement, the FA said: "Barnsley FC and Cardiff City FC have been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following the EFL Championship game on Wednesday 2 February 2022.

"It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or club officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour, following the end of the fixture.

"Barnsley FC and Cardiff CIty FC have until Wednesday 9 February 2022 to provide their respective responses."
