The UK Space Agency has thrown its support behind a Cardiff aerospace company to develop technology that will form part of the first cislunar mission launched from Britain. SmallSpark Space Systems, which creates novel engineering solutions for the aerospace and space industry, has received financial backing from the UK Space Agency to develop next generation rocket propulsion systems.
The company has received £76,000, as part of a package from the agency worth £2.7 million for 13 early-stage technology projects across England, Scotland and Wales to support the satellite launch sector.
SmallSpark will use the funding to develop a dual-firing mode propulsion system, designed to power the company’s Space Logistics Vehicle (S4-SLV), along with upper stages of launch vehicles. SmallSpark's S4-SLV will then service small satellites in orbit, prolonging their life and reducing space debris.
