Cardi B is entertaining on her patio this summer, without a single piece of furniture in sight. The rapper's stunningly landscaped firepit area provides comfort, privacy, and style that's ready for hosting whenever she is.
We spotted Cardi's backyard fire pit idea in an Instagram post, alongside her green Birkin bag and outfit in the same color palette. She sits on the edge of a built-in brick fireplace, surrounded by an amphitheatre-like curved bench.
From the slate flooring to the top of the white brick wall, every element of the design is a built-in element of her home. Evergreen shrubs and trees form a protective privacy planting around the entertaining area. It's equal parts secluded and inviting.
Beyond its aesthetic benefits, the rapper's design is the secret to making outdoor dining quick and easy because absolutely no setup is required (except maybe a quick power wash of the bricks after an especially cold winter).
Furthermore, experts say that now is the perfect time to start thinking about building up a patio like Cardi's to prepare for spring. Here's how you can use her design as an inspiration for your spring entertaining, what you should be doing inFebruary so it can look just as fresh as Cardi's come springtime. Plus, I created an edit of necessities to recreate her look.
Recreate Cardi's Look at Home

This outdoor firepit has a gas stove inside, making it one hundred times easier to use than a classic style. It will be a favorite at all of your summer gatherings.

These live plants are the perfect addition to your privacy planting scheme. As seen in Cardi's backyard, they are great for planting behind the seating area for visual coverage and shade.

If you don't have a hardscape bench, these affordable acacia wood curved pieces are ideal for pairing with a circular firepit. They are modular, so you can use as many or free as you have guests.

Evergreen shrubs will make your outdoor seating area feel perpetually fresh no matter the season. This Japanese Holly is dense for a feeling of total privacy.

I am obsessed with using rechargeable LED lamps as outdoor lighting on a spring and summer tablescape. This ultra-stylish one from Addison Ross is the same colorway as Cardi's Birkin for an extra touch of icon-approved glamour.

These Felco pruning shears have hardened blades for effortless trimming in your yard, making light work of keeping your entertaining area clear and inviting for spring. They're essential in every kind of garden.
If you are thinking of installing an impressively landscaped and hardscaped outdoor seating area like Cardi, February is the perfect time to start.
Isabel Fernandez, director of Quorn Stone, advises: 'Instead of waiting for bulbs and blossoms to burst, now is when you need to focus on updating your outside seating area and other garden hardscaping to create a fresh new look. It might be tempting to stay inside in the warm and put off thinking about your garden, driveway or courtyard until the days are longer and lighter. But getting ahead now means you’ll be able to enjoy your garden sooner when spring finally arrives.'
To keep your firepit design looking as fresh and elevated as Cardi B's, it's essential that you maintain it based on your specific type of stone. Natural stone requires more careful maintenance, while porcelain tiles are more forgiving.
Isabel explains: 'Porcelain is a man-made product which is extremely hardwearing and low maintenance, making it an increasingly popular choice for gardens. Whilst real stone paving tends to be more porous and requires gentler care.'
She continues: 'Porcelain paving has a strong, glazed surface, making the tile stain-resistant with very low water absorption. These characteristics mean staining is a rare occurrence, and the porcelain pavers can be cleaned with most outdoor cleaning products. Avoid harsh cleaners for natural stone tiles and ideally use a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid leaving spillages on the surface for too long and avoid scrubbing or using anything abrasive.'
The best design is the one that is usable and fits well into your everyday life. With built-in stone and subtle planting, Cardi B demonstrates one vision of what that might look like.
