Sunderland will discover their second round Carabao Cup opponents immediately after their first-round game with Sheffield Wednesday - if they manage to overome the Owls. The Black Cats are hoping to be in the hat when the other 13 Premier League clubs not in Europe and recently relegated Watford and Burnley enter the tournament.
The draw for the second round will take place following the conclusion of the game Hillsborough. Sky’s new Carabao Cup presenter for 2022/23, Mark Chapman, will host the draw with ex-Owls striker Clinton Morrison and former Sunderland man Michael Gray tasked with drawing the teams.
Shoulld they win, Sunderland will be placed into the northern section of the draw for round two and could face any of the sides in their half of the draw after a seeding system was scrapped in 2018. Round two ties will take place week the week commencing August 22.
