A CAR has plunged into the water of a loch near the Isle of Skye as rescue services were called to the scene.

Emergency services were called to reports of a vehicle which entered the water at Loch Pooltiel near the small village of Glendale at around 11am on Friday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed they dispatched a water rescue unit to the scene at around 11.24am.

The coastguard also attended the scene, sending a rescue helicopter and a rescue team from Skye to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) and officers from Police Scotland.

A spokesperson for SFRS said the driver of the vehicle had managed to escape and was taken to Broadford Hospital in Skye.

A spokesperson for SAS said: “We received a call to attend an incident in Glendale, Skye.

“We dispatched one ambulance to the scene and one patient was transported to Broadford Hospital, Skye.”
