The sale of land in Kirkby currently being used as a car park is set to be agreed to make way for new retirement homes.
The nearly one acre of land on St Chad's Drive, which used to house the St Chad's clinic and has more recently been used as a temporary car park for Kirkby town centre, is owned by Knowsley Council.
According to a report set to be approved by the local authority's cabinet next week, the temporary car park is "no longer required" since development work within the town centre, which has increased car park provision.
The report adds that the site is in a "highly visible" location within the town centre and ripe for redevelopment to support the council's wider regeneration efforts in Kirkby.

It states that an agreement has been reached with McCarthy and Stone Retirement Lifestyles Limited for the disposal of the land to enable the company to build 53 homes for later living.
The development would create homes available for shared ownership which could help older residents "rightsize" their living accommodation and free up other homes across the borough for growing families, according to the report.
The council intends to provide McCarthy and Stone with a 999 year lease for an undisclosed amount with the sale only expected to complete once any planning permission applied for has been granted.
Cabinet members are expected to approve the report at a meeting to be held at Huyton Muncipal Buildings next Wednesday, July 12 at 5pm.
