A car has been left completely mangled after a crash with a lorry on a busy Edinburgh road. The collision occurred on Calder Road in the Sighthill area of the city at around 2pm on Friday, August 19.
Images show the smaller blue motor irreparably damaged, with body panels left strewn on the floor and the back of the vehicle smashed in. A large dent can also be seen in the side of the and a huge dent left in the larger vehicle, Edinburgh Live reports.
The car has been written off after the crash at the "dangerous" Bankhead roundabout, near the Big Yellow Self Storage facility. The area has proved to be a hotspot for similar incidents and is incredibly busy during peak times.
Thankfully, despite the levels of damage to both vehicles, no one was hurt in the collision. However, motorists experienced delays until the area was clear, and several drivers took to Twitter to warn others about the incident.
One said: "Delays at Bankhead Roundabout just now. RTC on the roundabout going from Calder road towards Westside Plaza. Police, Fire Engine and Ambulance in attendance."
Another added: "The inside lane on the Calder Road claims another accident today, which happens at least three times a month. If there’s a lorry/bus going straight over and you’re turning left to Wester Hailes Road you're going to get crushed as there’s simply not enough space on the road."
Following tweets, Edinburgh City Council's help team confirmed they had passed the information on to the relevant department.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a crash involving a tanker and a car, around 2pm on Friday, 19 August, 2022. There were no reports of any injuries and recovery was arranged.”
