Car flips onto roof in crash as emergency crews race to Scots street

A car has flipped onto its roof after a crash on a street in Fife this afternoon, sparking an emergency response.

The smash is believed to have taken place around 2pm on Townsend Place in the town of Kirkcaldy. Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, sped to the scene, where they remain.

Photos taken at the scene show the aftermath of the collision, with a white overturned motor sitting in the centre of the road.

Dozens of firefighters surround the vehicle and a uniformed officer stands guard. In another image, at least two blue-lit cop cars appear to block the road, while a sign is erected advising drivers and pedestrians to steer clear of the area. The car involved was a white Skoda Fabia, which collided with a silver Mazda hatchback parked on the street.

The Mazda was unoccupied. Locals reported hearing a 'bang' and seeing an individual being 'carried out their car and onto a stretcher' following the dramatic accident.

Resident Ni Gerrard told the Record: "The white car just flipped over. I heard a bang then I went outside. Someone was carried out their car on a stretcher. It's only a 40mph road."

It is understood that the sole occupant of the car is currently receiving treatment by paramedics at the scene. The extent of their injuries are not yet known, as are the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police have since issued an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage in order to understand the circumstances of the bizzare collision. Officers say the 25-year-old female driver of the Skoda was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy "as a precaution".

Sergeant Colin Morrison, Road Policing Unit, Fife, said: “Our enquiries into the crash area continuing and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the crash to get in touch with police if you have not already done so. We are keen to view any dash-cam footage from motorists if available.”
