Car explodes on street like 'massive firework' waking neighbours

A car exploded last night March 22 on Stormont Road in Garston, Liverpool.

Merseyside Police attended the scene with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service who extinguished the fire. It is believed that the incident may have been a "deliberate act".

An anonymous source from the area sent videos and pictures to the ECHO. You can see in the images the fire on the car blazing while Firefighters are attempting to put it out.

The person who sent the images, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "The road was silent, I was in bed, and then I just heard a loud bang, it sounded like a massive firework but like ten times louder. Then about a minute later another loud bang, then we could see the orange coming through the window and we saw the car on fire."

Merseyside Police have released the following statement: "At around 10.55pm last night (Tuesday 22 March) officers were called to a report of a car on fire on Stormont road in Liverpool. It was reported that a black Peugeot 33008 exploded on the road.
