Police are investigating after a car was destroyed in a fire in Fife after hitting a property, prompting an emergency response next to a primary school.
Shocking footage online shows the vehicle engulfed in flames with huge plumes of smoke billowing out. The incident took place on Station Road in Lochgelly just before 11pm on Wednesday, February 8.
Police said today that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) had to extinguish the blaze. Traffic was restricted for safety reasons while the fire, near to St Patrick's RC Primary School, was dealt with.
No one was injured in the incident. It's unclear at this stage if the blaze is being treated as suspicious or not, or if it is thought to have been caused by wilful fire-raising.
One member of the public commented on footage of the incident, saying it was like "something out of the computer game GTA".
Another added: "This is so dangerous. Not suggesting it definitely was wilful but it’s unusual for a car to just go on fire. If it was wilful then hopefully they catch whoever was responsible and throw the book at them."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 10.50pm on Wednesday, February 8, to a report of a car on fire in Station Road, Lochgelly.
“Emergency services attended and the fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. No one was injured. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.49pm on Wednesday, February 8, to reports of a vehicle on fire, which had collided with a property on Station Road, Lochgelly.
"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene where firefighters extinguished one car which was well alight. There were no reported casualties. Crews left the scene at 1.37am after ensuring the area was made safe.”
