A vehicle has ploughed into the Brisbane electorate office of federal Labor MP Terri Butler.
Ms Butler posted images on Twitter, showing the damage to her office in Greenslopes on Brisbane's southside.
"No-one was harmed. Thanks for your concern, everyone," she said.
"The police are on the scene. We don't know the condition or whereabouts of the driver."
Police said late on Thursday afternoon a woman in her 20s turned herself in at Coorparoo Police Station over the incident and was assisting them with their enquiries.
Earlier, police said it was not believed to have been deliberate.
They also said they did not think the incident was politically motivated.
Police said early indications suggested the driver lost control of the vehicle and careened into the glass shop-front around 1pm, before driving away from the scene.
It is understood there is CCTV footage of the crash, but police said they will not release it owing to the political sensitivity of the incident.
A search is underway for the driver who was last spotted heading along Old Cleveland Road.
'A very big shock'
Ms Butler told the ABC she was on her way back from announcing a flood resilience plan for Ipswich when she heard the news.
"We rushed back out here of course as soon as we could," she said.
"What we saw when we got here was that the entire front doors had been caved in — ceiling tiles loose, smashed glass everywhere, damage to the internal wall in the foyer area."
She confirmed none of her staff had been harmed and said she hoped the driver was OK.
"It is quite a shock for all staff, but particularly for the people who are working in the office at the time who heard this almighty smash and didn't know what was going on in the panic," she said.
"I'm just so thankful that there were no locals in that foyer area seeking help with a pension issue, or a disability service, or a Centrelink issue, or something of that nature, because it would have been just devastating."
She declined to speculate on the cause of the crash.
Albanese says AFP investigating incident
Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese said the Australian Federal Police were investigating.
"It's not clear the details of the incident, and therefore we won't be speculating on it," he said.
"It is good news though that none of Terri's staff or indeed anyone who was in the vicinity of what is a very busy precinct, has been hurt."
But Ms Butler said the crash would not derail her re-election campaign.
"Nothing in this election campaign is going to distract us from the task of defeating Scott Morrison and electing an Albanese government."
