Capel Street is set to host a fun family day out to mark its new status as one of the coolest streets in the world.
The inner city thoroughfare will host a family friendly celebration on September 25, with entertainment including Giant Jenga, face painting and stilt-walkers on offer. Children will be invited to draw on the street with chalk as part of an effort to make the area a vibrant kaleidoscope of colour.
Dublin’s Lord Mayor Caroline Conroy said the day promised to show off the huge potential Capel Street has to offer the wider Dublin population. She encouraged people to attend the day out, which is free of charge and open to all ages.

She said: "We are so proud to see Dublin’s Capel Street named among the coolest in the world and really look forward to a celebration full of fun, colour and culture on September 25. If you haven't been to Capel Street in a while or you're there every day, come and join us to celebrate our city."
Additionally, visitors can enjoy a wide range of food from several Capel Street eateries that will be operating throughout the day. Time Out magazine previously praised Capel Street for having “some of the best food in Dublin” and commended the area for its buzz and lively nature. The street is home to numerous restaurants and bars, including the famous Pantibar and New Orleans inspired eatery Krewe.
The area was named the 22nd coolest street in a survey by global travel magazine Time Out, triumphing over areas such as Grafton Street and Temple Bar. The survey also recommended visiting Bar 1661, a renowned poitín bar in the area, for tourists hoping to try out something new.
Capel Street was officially pedestrianised back in May, making it the longest car-free street in Dublin. Organisers say that the absence of traffic in the area will allow families to enjoy the street entertainment and overall experience with greater ease.
The event will run on Sunday the 25th September from 1-5pm.
