Capcom knows you don't care about Monster Hunter Wilds' poor Rompopolo, so it's making the sentient bagpipe the star of its own event quest

ROmpopolo hat in monster hunter wilds.

Capcom has revealed that the poisonous brute wyvern Rompopolo is the least-popular monster in Monster Hunter Wilds, so it's creating a special quest dedicated to it to entice you with new rewards.

In the Monster Hunter Wilds 1st Anniversary Message video posted on YouTube, where Capcom confirmed the development of a "large-scale expansion" for Wilds, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto outlined some of the event quests coming to the game in the months ahead. These include a crossover with Monster Hunter Stories 3 and an event to get the winners of the weapon design contest: the Shatterseal great sword and SOS Meating Pendant.

Between February 28 and March 19, 2026 a new quest will emerge. "After analyzing player data, we determined the least hunted monster, and prepared a limited-time quest for it," Tsujimoto explained, with Rompopolo being the recipient of this esteemed reward. Clearly, the monster is unhappy about this distinction, as Tsujimoto warns, "Don't let your guard down, since this monster has been tuned to be especially challenging just for this quest," with the quest showing it as a 10-star mission.

The Rompopolo is a big, bird-like thing that inflates itself (and, by extension, can be deflated) and, frankly, looks quite horrifying. As such, completing the quest will nab you some unique items with Capcom showing off a lantern, some balloon-looking items, and most cursed of all, a Rompopolo hat which comes in both inflated and deflated flavours.

Monster Hunter Wilds Steam reviews on the mend following Capcom's latest performance patch.
