Caoimhin Kelleher has left the door open for a loan move away from Liverpool next season.
The Corkman is poised to keep his starting place in the Ireland team for Wednesday’s Nations League clash with Ukraine owing to Gavin Bazunu’s injury.
And by the end of these four games, it is possible that Kelleher will have started the last six Ireland internationals in a row.
He knows that a run of club games will help him knock Bazunu off his perch as Ireland’s current No 1.
And with the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign to come next year, he has all the incentive he needs to enhance his international prospects.
Bazunu, 20, secured the Ireland gloves having benefited from playing regularly on loan from Manchester City to Portsmouth and Rochdale.
But a back injury ruled him out of Saturday’s defeat in Armenia and he was today ruled out of the Ukraine double-header and Scotland clash.
Kelleher, 20, made eight appearances for Liverpool this season, including two in the Premier League, but must weigh up whether to spend another campaign as their No 2.
Quizzed today on his club future after the summer, Kelleher said: “I'm not sure yet. I need to play these few games and see what happens and maybe decide after that.
“It would be really good to hopefully play a few more games (for Ireland). Playing the last few has been really good for me. It’s great to get games at international level.
“It’s a very high level and it’s really good for my development.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen at club level but, if you keep performing when you get the chance, hopefully I can stay in and keep hold of the jersey.”
Kelleher, who was close to joining a Dutch club on loan in 2020, added of his Liverpool future: “I'm not sure on what's happening yet.
“I'm still finishing this season and then we’ll have conversations after that to see what happens.”
