Police officers have gifted fan equipment seized as part of a raid on a cannabis factory to care homes. Officers found a large factory earlier this week in Bridgend town centre but made the best of a bad situation by giving them back to the community, South Wales Police said.
Bridgend police discovered the farm inside a property in Adare Street on Saturday, March 11. About 800 plants were said to be grown altogether. Police said the fans will now be used in residential care homes for the benefit of elderly people rather than their original intended purpose in the use of criminality.

Care homes including Pen-y-Bont in Abertillery, The Oaklands in Bridgend and Brocastle Manor Care Home in Bridgend have received the donation. A spokesperson for the police said on their twitter page: "Following the discovery of the Cannabis factory in Bridgend Town Centre. PCSO' Jones and Thomas have distributed 30 new wall mounted ventilation fans to residential care homes throughout Bridgend. These fans will be used to benefit residents in these care homes in the community."
Reanne Davis from The Oaklands in Bridgend said: "I know when some of the staff collected the fans off the policemen the other day it was a bit of a surprise as we didn't know too much about it. But it's come at a really good time before summer.
"As it gets hotter we always look to install ventilation to make sure our residents aren't dehydrated when the weather gets hotter. The fans are really good for keeping the residents cool."
Investigations into the cannabis factory that the police found are still ongoing. Another cannabis factory was recently discovered in the former mattress shop in Aberkenfig, Bridgend, in February.
Police found more than 140 "mature" Class B plants after intelligence from a neighbourhood policing team. Photos from the raid showed a large room filled with plants which were being controlled by climbers made from bamboo cane and tied to the ceiling with lengths of string.
