Police found cannabis and clothing in a street after reports of a “possible robbery”.
Cheshire Constabulary said officers were called to Main Street in Halton Village, Runcorn, at 6.40pm on Wednesday. A force spokesman said the caller reported a man was "possibly" being robbed or attacked by a group of men.
All had fled by the time police arrived. The ECHO attended the scene, close to the Methodist Church and Halton Royal British Legion pub.

Varying numbers of police cars were pulled up with some arriving and pulling away again, lights and sirens blaring.
Two officers were examining items on the ground next to the path that runs towards Shopping City, and the objects were bagged up and removed.
The spokesman said they included clothes and cannabis, but it is not known whether they were linked to the reported incident in the street.
Other officers were approaching passers-by to speak to them.
The spokesman said: “At 6.40pm on Wednesday, February 15, police were called to reports of a possible robbery on Main Street, Runcorn, near to the British Legion.
“The caller reported that a man was possibly being robbed or assaulted by three other men.
“Officers were dispatched to the scene and on arrival all those involved had fled the scene.
“Officers conducted a search of the area and there was no trace of the suspects or the victim.
“Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1480112.”
The incident occurred within the Halton Village "conservation area".
