Canelo Alvarez believes fans had different opinions of his two controversial fights with Gennady Golovkin.
Alvarez will face a third challenge from bitter rival Golovkin on September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The pair have shared a rivalry which has grown year-on-year since their first meeting in 2017 ended in a draw with most people judging Golovkin to have won the bout.
The rematch a year later caused further outrage with Alvarez awarded the majority decision on the judges scorecards despite many believing Golovkin again did enough to take victory. Despite many inside the sport continuing to bring up their past fights, Alvarez believes this third showdown has potential to be the most thrilling yet.
"Listen, when the fights are very close everybody has different opinions but that is good," Alvarez said when addressing the two results of his previous meetings with Golovkin in an interview with Behind The Gloves. "We have two really good fights and they will go down in the history books of boxing so I feel very proud and great to have this trilogy.
"This could be the best of the three fights we have had. After I come from a loss this fight for me is very important and I am very hungry and motivated, but I don't really care about money because the money is there. I take these kind of risks because I love boxing."
Alvarez found himself facing significant backlash after the fights but went on to make a sensational leap to light-heavyweight, where he became world champion when he beat Sergey Kovalev. He then went on a run to become undisputed champion at 168lb beating Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith and Caleb Plant to win all four belts.

Alvarez, whose titles will be on the line next month, previously claimed his rivalry with Golovkin is "personal" with the pair trading verbal barbs at the launch press conference, while also sharing fierce gazes during their staredown.
However Alvarez has surprisingly heaped praise on his rival ahead of the fight and believes Golovkin's performance against Murata shows he remains a fighter at the highest level. “He was looking good in the last fight [against Murata],” Alvarez added.
“He’s strong. Like I say he’s a talented boxer. I watched the highlights because I was in Greece on holiday. Like I say, he looked always strong, a pressure fighter, looking good. He’s one of the best. He’s one of the best for sure.”
