Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign communications director Michael Tyler stated that both candidates have agreed to have live, unmuted microphones during the upcoming September 10 debate. This decision comes in contrast to former President Donald Trump's claim that he had reached an agreement for muted microphones, similar to the rules in the June debate.
Tyler emphasized that both candidates are comfortable with the live, unmuted format as it allows for a more natural exchange of ideas during the 90-minute debate. He mentioned that Trump's team is now reportedly seeking to change this agreement, but reiterated that the candidates themselves are in agreement regarding the microphone rules.
Despite the potential for micromanagement from Trump's team, Tyler affirmed that they are fully committed to participating in the debate, even if the microphones are muted when the candidates are not speaking.
