The development has prompted conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has publicly questioned Kirk since her husband's death, to dismiss the recording as fabricated.
Owens said her team had investigated the audio and confirmed it was not authentic, adding that its inauthenticity was why she had not used it in her previous reporting on Kirk, despite having received it multiple times over the preceding month.
