Candace Owens is once again at the centre of a digital firestorm, this time after accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of killing thousands of people. The conservative commentator's latest claim does not concern the recent strikes in Iran, but instead reaches back to one of the most traumatic events in modern US history: the 9/11 attacks.
The backlash erupted after Owens posted on X a message that appeared to link the Israeli leader to the hijackings of 11 September 2001. The intervention marks a striking escalation in her commentary on Middle Eastern geopolitics and historic international events.
'You Murdered 3,000 Americans'
Owens took to X (formerly Twitter) and directly accused the Prime Minister of alleged involvement in the tragedy that redefined the 21st century. She specifically called out Netanyahu in response to his recent interview, in which he compared Israel and Iran amid their conflict.
'You see the difference. The tyrants of Tehran target civilians. We target the tyrants of Tehran to protect civilians,' Netanyahu said.
Owens, however, was clearly unconvinced. She wrote, 'You murdered 3,000 Americans on 9/11,' suggesting that Netanyahu was involved in the terrorist attack.

The reaction from the public was immediate and sharply divided, reflecting the polarised nature of her recent commentary. One user, Lisa Purdue, responded bluntly to the post, stating, 'We know you hate Jews sweetie.'
Another argued that Netanyahu was not the prime minister during the 9/11 attack and 'Every single terrorist on the [planes was] Muslim.'
Conversely, some users defended the commentator's right to ask questions, while others expressed sheer confusion at the timing of the allegation. Critics have accused Owens of veering into territory that alienates her traditional conservative base and fuels modern conspiracy narratives.

Conspiracy Claims Involving The Mossad
The accusations are often rooted in fringe reports that have circulated for decades, claiming Israeli intelligence, or Mossad, had a hand in the events. One prominent narrative mentioned on X alleged that Israel sent five Mossad agents to record the attacks on the World Trade Center.
These reports claim they were spotted dancing, cheering and filming as the Twin Towers collapsed. Furthering this line of thought, some users pointed to a specific photograph allegedly showing an agent holding a lit lighter up with the smouldering wreckage in the background.
The five Israelis, who were rumoured to be Mossad agents, were interrogated and subjected to a lie detector test. It turned out that they worked for a company called Urban Moving.
The FBI concluded that they had no knowledge about the attack and were not involved. They were not charged but were held on immigration offences for violating visa regulations by working illegally, and were deported back to Israel in November of the same year.
However, many continued to debate the case, with some arguing that at least some of the men were involved in an Israeli operation that monitors radical charities supporting groups like Hamas. Their lawyer and the Israeli government denied the allegation.

Official Findings For The 9/11 Attack
Despite theories implicating Jews or Israeli officials in the 9/11 attack, the official investigation has been unequivocal. The 9/11 Commission Report concluded that the operations were carried out by Al Qaeda hijackers and organised by Osama bin Laden's network.
According to the FBI's investigation, 19 men crashed four planes, and they were all trained by Al Qaeda. Fifteen of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, two from the United Arab Emirates, one from Egypt and one from Lebanon. The investigation found no evidence that the Israeli government or its intelligence services had prior knowledge of the specific plot.
As the debate continues, Owens has shown no sign of retracting her statements or softening her stance. The controversy underscores the ongoing tension between official historical records and the viral spread of social media claims that seek to challenge or rewrite them.
