Canberra's health system relies on people like Shakeeb, who came to Australia on a temporary visa

Shakeeb Bani-Yaseen doesn't even remember what it's like to work in his native Jordan, where he did his medical internship.

The emergency physician - who works in a Canberra hospital - arrived on a visitor's visa to sit his Australian Medical Council exam as a new graduate in 2014, and practiced medicine all over Australia before settling down in the ACT.
