A new kerbside bulky waste program would be trialled across 20 suburbs across Canberra if Labor is re-elected.
Under the program, Canberrans would be able to put out old items, such as furniture and broken appliances, onto their kerbs for collection and disposal.
Areas would be given a designated date to place their items on the kerb. Under the scheme, items would be need to be put out on a Sunday to be collected on the Monday.
A Labor government would also promote the kerbside pick-ups to Canberrans to encourage them to rehome these items.
This promotion would be called "Second Hand Sundays".
The trial would start next year and the 20 suburbs included would be from Canberra's north and south.
Many local councils across Australia offer a similar service.
The new kerbside collection program will further support efforts to reduce illegal dumping, an ACT Labor statement said.
The ACT government already offers households free bulky waste collection but people have to book this and they are only eligible for one pick-up each year.
Bulky waste collections began in Canberra in 2020. It was first rolled out to residents in Tuggeranong and Gungahlin and then to the rest of Canberra in the following year.
