A Canberra man has been charged after police allegedly discovered five 3D-printed guns during raids at properties in the ACT and New South Wales.
Andrew Kay, 38, was charged with eight offences including five counts of unauthorised manufacture of guns and other gun and ammunition possession charges after the raids in Turner and Braidwood yesterday.
Police said they seized five 3D-printed guns, a pistol, 3D-printed gun parts, ammunition including shotgun rounds, a suppressor, a 3D printer and a small number of drugs.
Mr Kay faced the ACT Magistrates Court today and said he intended to plead not guilty to all eight charges.
He did not seek bail and was remanded in custody.
ACT Policing said the raids took place after they received information following the arrest of another man who was allegedly caught with a 3D-printed gun in March.
The 33-year-old Campsie man was charged with unauthorised gun possession and other offences after he put his car in for service at an auto repair shop in Belconnen and a mechanic allegedly found a concealed gun in the car.
A further police search of the car allegedly revealed ammunition, about $2,500 in cash and several sealed bags suspected to contain drugs.
ACT Policing's Detective Active Inspector Sam Norman thanked the public for their help in both cases.
"These arrests stem from information provided by a member of the public and show how these type of tips can assist police as we tackle wider criminal enterprises," Detective Acting Inspector Norman said.
"Any piece of information, no matter how big or small, can assist police, and I would encourage members of the community to report anything suspicious to police."
Mr Kay will be back in court next month.
