Canadian firm Jamp Pharma Corporation has established a Centre of Excellence, its first such outside Canada, in Genome Valley, the well known Life Sciences cluster on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Poised to be one of the key drivers of the company’s growth plan, the facility will contribute to about 25% of Jamp’s total product pipeline in phase-1 itself, Industries and IT Minister K. T. Rama Rao’s office said on the occasion of commissioning the CoE on Tuesday.
Of the proposed total investment of about ₹250 crore and creation of jobs for 200 people, the company has invested around ₹100 crore in the first phase and created employment for around 80 people. It plans to implement other phases over the next two years. A release from the Minister’s office said the CoE is designed to cater to solid oral dosage form, powders, topicals, nasal delivery and liquid oral pharmaceutical products for regulated markets. The company is working on another project — a manufacturing facility for nasal spray which is intended to be completed in a year.
Noting that the CoE is first owned facility of Jamp Pharma outside Canada and designed to cater to the Canadian as well as other regulated markets, Mr. Rao said the company found Genome Valley as the most attractive destination for setting up the operations.
The Minister said Hyderabad is continuing to consolidate its position in the Life Sciences ecosystem. “We are a $50 billion Life Sciences industry in Hyderabad now... our ambition is to make it a $100 billion industry by 2030 employing four lakh people in this sector,” he said.
Demand for land
Around 400 acres adjoining Genome Valley is to be acquired to accommodate the ever growing demand of the Life Sciences industry for land allocation to set up more facilities, Mr. Rao said, adding there are plans to also set up 5-star hotel in the neighbourhood. Given Genome Valley is the epicentre for Life Sciences industry in Hyderabad, the government will ensure basic infrastructure development happens at an expeditious pace. An amount of ₹12 crore has been approved recently to improve the water facility in the area.
He said this while pointing to how connectivity to Genome Valley could be improved if the Centre agreed to the State’s request seeking defence lands to expand roads from Jubilee Bus Station to Shamirpet. “We have also been asking them for lands from Suchitra Circle... ready with money and plans to construct skyways, but government of India is non-responsive. I do hope wisdom will dawn on them and they understand that a growing city like Hyderabad and cluster like Genome Valley needs all the support it can from both State and Central governments,” he said.
In a video message, Jamp Pharma Group CEO Louis Pilon said the CoE would play an important role in the company achieving its ambitious goal of emerging as one of the largest global pharmaceutical firms.
