As tensions continue to simmer between Israel and the Palestinians, the question of whether the Palestinians could become a full United Nations member remains a complex and contentious issue.

Currently, the State of Palestine holds non-member observer state status at the United Nations, a designation it received in 2012. This status allows Palestine to participate in UN General Assembly debates and to co-sponsor resolutions, but it does not grant full membership rights, such as voting privileges.
