Manchester United fans couldn’t help but look on with envy as James Garner got himself on the scoresheet again for Nottingham Forest.
The on-loan midfielder has been catching the eye of United fans a lot since the turn of the year, with his performances helping Forest through to the fifth round of the FA Cup with famous wins over Arsenal and Leicester.
And he’s been playing a big role in their push for the play-offs in the Championship, with Forest sitting three points off the top seven after their 2-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday.
Garner struck the all-important second goal 10 minutes into the second half to secure three points at the City Ground.
There have been plenty of calls for the 20-year-old to be given his chance with United next season, particularly given the Reds’ problems in midfield this season.
And on an afternoon where United fans saw their own side waste chance after chance in the goalless draw with Watford, supporters couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous upon hearing of Garner’s latest strike.
Garner’s chances of breaking into the United first team next season have been given some backing from former defender Rio Ferdinand this week.
“I think Garner definitely goes back and says ‘what’s happening, am I going to be involved in the first team squad to get a chance or not’,” Ferdinand said on the Vibe With Five podcast.
“If not then I’m going to go, if I am then give me a chance.”
