Camilla speaks about her future as Queen for first time - says she's 'very touched'

The Duchess of Cornwall has spoken out for the first time since the Queen backed her to take the Queen Consort title when her husband Prince Charles is King.

On a visit to the Nourish Hub community food centre in West London today, Camilla was asked about how she feels about her future title.

And in reply she said she was "very, very honoured" and "very touched" to receive the Queen's backing to be a future Queen Consort.

The duchess spoke with every guest and volunteer at the venue, and Gianni, 59, a local resident who was visiting the kitchen, presented the her with a bouquet of flowers, to which she replied: “Grazie.”

The visit was among Camilla’s first public royal duties since being endorsed by the Queen as a future Queen Consort.

Before that she also visited Paddington Haven, a sexual assault referral centre in West London, where she met former Love Island star Zara McDermott and discussed her experience of revenge porn and assault.

In an extraordinary statement on the eve of her Platinum Jubilee, the Queen expressed her wish for Camilla to be known as Queen Consort when Prince Charles takes the throne.

For years insiders were sure Camilla would take the title Princess Consort instead - although there had been speculation that Charles wanted his wife to be his Queen.

In a bombshell statement from the Palace, it was announced the monarch’s wish is that Camilla be known as Queen Consort.

In a message to the nation, the Queen wrote: “When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me.

“And it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

In reply, Charles paid tribute to his "inspiring" mother in a moving statement, admitting he's "deeply conscious" of her wish for Camilla to become his Queen Consort when he takes the throne.

Meanwhile, Camilla's engagements in London today come on the same day it's been revealed that her husband Charles has tested positive for Covid-19 for a second time and is self-isolating.

In a tweet, Clarence House revealed that the 73-year-old prince had tested positive for the virus this morning and as result would be cancelling engagements in Winchester today.

The tweet by Clarence House said: "This morning The Prince of Wales has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now self-isolating.

"HRH is deeply disappointed not to be able to attend today's events in Winchester and will look to reschedule his visit as soon as possible."

News of his positive test comes just hours after he and Camilla attended a black tie event held by the British Asian Trust at the British Museum last night and met scores of people.

However, Clarence House confirmed that Camilla had tested negative this morning.

A spokesman said: “The Duchess of Cornwall has routinely tested negative today. She is on a separate series of engagements from the Prince of Wales.”
