Cameroonian primary school teacher Geraldine Achiah died in September 2026, barely two months after marrying, amid growing protests over the killing of women across the country. Her husband, Manfred Amambua, has been charged with murder but denies killing her, according to police.

Cameroon's Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family estimates that nearly 70 women have been killed in gender-related violence this year, according to the Associated Press.
