Cameron Diaz has opened up on the ‘challenges’ of being mum to her two-year-old daughter Raddix.
The actress, 49, and husband Benji Madden welcomed their first child in December 2019, and Cameron candidly spoke about motherhood during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
The Charlie’s Angels star confessed to experiencing “frustrating” moments with her daughter, and said she apologises to the toddler if she loses her cool.
Cameron said she does her “mom checklist” when Raddix starts to lose her temper, as she tries to understand how she’s feeling.
“Did she eat? Is she tired? What time is it? When was the last time she ate? When did she nap?” she told host Kelly.
“You just kind of start there, and you go, 'What just happened? Is there something she's trying to communicate to me?'” The There’s Something About Mary star explained.
Cameron said she feels like it’s “my job” to help Raddix understand her emotions, and to help process the confusion and anger.
“And I feel like as a parent, my job is to just help her find the words to her emotions, her experience, what she's going through and be able to help her identify that and move through it,” she shared.
But Cameron admitted parenting is hard, and she “loses her s**t” from time to time.
“But you know what's also really imperative - to repair. Like if you do blow up, just to repair that and say, ‘Oh my God, mommy lost her s**t,’” she laughed.
“And, ‘I didn't mean to say that to you. If I hurt your feelings or if I upset you, I just want you to know that mommy's human too,’” Cameron added.
She also said motherhood is the “best thing I've ever done in life”, and is over the moon to be mum to her gorgeous daughter, who she’s kept out of the limelight.
The actress has been semi-retired from Hollywood, instead focusing on penning self-help books, as well as her own organic wine brand, Avaline.
