Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell reckons the club will be heading into the transfer market in a bid to replace Jay Nelson, who he expects will move to West of Scotland Premier League club Pollok in the coming days.
Campbell says he would never stand in the midfielder’s way, and hopes he uses the potential move as a platform to even better things.
The Somervell Park club has previous history of nurturing talent, with striker Scott Williamson signing for Queen’s Park last season, and Campbell reckons Nelson is similarly talented.
He said: “We’re doing a wee bit of chopping and changing and we think young Jay Nelson will be moving over to Pollok, they’ve been showing an interest in him.
“That might be one out, so we need to look at trying to bolster the squad again.
“But he’s a fabulous talent, the young lad, and if he’s got an opportunity to move to Pollok and that’s what he wants to do, we’re not going to hold him back.
“It’s a great move for the boy and we’re pleased for him, so hopefully he can even use that as a stepping stone.
“It’s nice to see these lads making a step up, like Scott Williamson, and young Jay was always on the radar for that as well.
“The boy has talent and he maybe has a wee chance, so if we can get him over to the shop window via Pollok, or he stays at Pollok, good on him.
“It’s entirely in his hands now, but he’s a good lad and we’re pleased that he’s getting a decent move, and it might well be a stepping stone if nothing else.”
