Cambuslang Rangers captain Scott Anson says ‘hard luck’ stories need to stop, but his side can shock teams in the West of Scotland Premier League.
Rangers have taken just one win from six in the top flight, having won last season’s Conference B title, with Saturday’s clash at home to Irvine Meadow postponed due to heavy rain and a waterlogged pitch.
As they prepare for a trip to Troon, striker Anson says Camby must rise from second-bottom of the table, or risk being stuck there.
He said: “The ‘hard luck’ stories have to stop, we can’t keep saying ‘it will turn next time’.
“It’s now getting to that stage that if you’re still down there at Christmas and you’re a good bit behind, then it’s difficult to claw it back.
“Troon will be looking to bounce back from a 5-0 defeat to Darvel, and is this a good time to play them and heap more misery on them – I don’t know.
“If we create chances we’ll definitely score, it’s about keeping the door shut at the other end.
“I’ve never been one for worrying about other teams. [Co-managers] Paul McColl and Billy Campbell tend to talk about the opposition, but for me I want the opposition to talk about us.
“Let’s worry about ourselves, because the only team that should be able to beat you is yourself, really.”
Anson says Cambuslang must use Somervell Park to their advantage, especially against teams who might arrive thinking it’s an ‘easy’ game.
He said: “I wanted the game against Irvine Meadow to be on, you want to get these games played. It’s another game we’re not going to have at home, so now we go into a couple of away ones.
“With the park and the way we play, it might not have suited them. We’re a match for anybody at home, and I think when the winter weather comes in it will suit us.
“Our park’s not great, teams are going to turn up thinking it’s a bit of a dive, and that’s what we’re going to have to use to our benefit.
“It looks a wee bit better if you have more points on the board, but I’m confident going into the Troon game that we can go down there and give them a game.
“We can beat them. They’ll want to get Saturday out of their minds and they’ll be thinking ‘listen, we’re only playing Cambuslang’ so that’s another good thing, because teams are maybe expecting to beat us. Maybe teams can be shocked when they do play us.
“But the league table doesn’t lie, so it’s about getting points on the board.”
