Keir Samson popped up with a late goal yesterday to ensure Auchinleck Talbot returned to winning ways.
Time was running out at sun-soaked Somervell Park in South Lanarkshire when Samson directed a header from a deep free-kick into the net.
It turned out to be enough to secure Talbot their second West of Scotland League Premier Division victory of the season.
And the result was just the tonic after last weekend's 3-0 humbling at home to reigning champions Darvel.
"I thought they had a bit of pressure in the first half but we got a bit better in the second half," said Talbot boss Tommy Sloan. "The substitutes made a difference for us and I think we deserved it.
"It was always a tight match and the first goal was always going to be key. I was delighted to see Keir's header go in.
"We were a body or two short for this game and there was some jiggling of the squad but we're fine.
"We're always looking for new players, that will never change, but I'm happy with the squad we've got. We have good players here."
This was a game of few clearcut chances with the searing heat and a dry, hard pitch making life very difficult for both sets of players.
Credit to the teams, though. They put on a hard-fought contest for the fans topping up their tans, with Cambuslang Rangers a strong, experienced side who no one will enjoy facing this term.
Talbot came close to the opener in the 12th minute when Ross Taylor fired an effort just wide before Camby defender Scott Faulds rattled the bar with a header from a corner.
In the second half, Taylor was involved again when he darted to the near post to get on the end of a Graeme Wilson cross but he couldn't get his final effort on target.
This always felt like a first-goal-the-winner type of match and when Samson nodded home in the 78th minute, it was hard to see a way back for the shattered hosts.
Jack McLarty fired over the bar for Camby but Talbot were largely untroubled in the closing stages as they held on through six minutes of injury time to claim victory.
