Cambridge United boss makes Bolton Wanderers season expection ahead of League One encounter

Mark Bonner believes Bolton Wanderers ought to have the expection to push on up the League One table and reach the play-offs by the end of the season.

The Cambridge United boss has spoken ahead of his side's clash against Wanderers this evening at the University of Bolton Stadium.

These two sides locked horns in League Two last season and both were promoted automatically along with champions Cheltenham Town.

The Us came out on top earlier on in the season with a 1-0 win at the Abbey Stadium.

Bonner's side are in a good run of form but is aware of the task his side face in taking on Wanderers this evening, believing Bolton had an 'incredible result' against Sunderland on Saturday.

And with the side of club and how Wanderers went on a winning run which helped inspire promotion, Bonner believes the ambition at Bolton ought to be the same once again and for history to repeat itself.

“The expectation internally (at Bolton) I’m sure is to do what happened last year, and go on a run of winning games,” Bonner told our colleagues at CambridgeshireLive.

“They’ve done three on the bounce, like we did last week, so they’ll be looking to continue that and push for a late play-off place, because that’s the expectation in their club, team and fan base.

"That’s kind of the pressure that they’re under, with the quality they’ve got and the investment that they make.

“They’re very good at what they do. We’ve known that from last year, and I think we’ve seen it plenty of times this year.

“We had a good game with them at our place earlier in the season, and they certainly come into it off the back of an incredible result and performance at the weekend.

“I’m sure they’ll be full of confidence, looking to back that up with another strong performance themselves.”
