If a quarterback who owns a Heisman Trophy, a national championship, an NFL Most Valuable Player Award, three division titles, a conference crown and an 11-year pro career can’t comment on quarterbacks, then who can?
After catching heat—much of it personal—for his commentary on a handful of the league’s current passers, Carolina Panthers great Cam Newton posted a sharp 10-minute retort to his critics late Thursday night. And it all boils down to one point—address the message, not the messenger.

Newton, as he states in the response, received some pretty harsh backlash for his thoughts on Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, Tua Tagovailoa and Jared Goff. In last week’s episode of his YouTube show 4th & 1, the former MVP labeled the four as “game managers,” which is often perceived as a backhanded compliment in the football world.
But, according to Newton, that was not the intent of his words.
