Calvin Ramsay deals Liverpool and Scotland injury blow as former Aberdeen star ruled out 'long-term'

Calvin Ramsay has suffered another cruel blow after it was revealed the Scotland full-back could miss the rest of the season because of injury.

Ramsay's big summer move to the English Premier League hasn't quite gone to plan so far with the former Aberdeen star struggling to stay injury free, which has resulted in just two first team appearances. The 19-year-old made his Anfield debut in a 2-0 Champions League win over Napoli last November and followed it up with 90 minutes against Derby in the EFL Cup to earn him a place in Steve Clarke's national team squad for the first time.

A stress fracture was discovered in Ramsay's back during medical checks on his first day at the club and he's struggled to fully recover since then. The Aberdonian has featured predominately for Liverpool's under 23s side in recent months, however The Telegraph have stated he's now set to be ruled out 'long term' with a further fitness setback. It is likely to rule him out of Scotland's clashes with Cyprus and Spain next month.

Ramsay was left out of Jurgen Klopp's Champions League squad earlier this month for the upcoming knockout stage clash with Real Madrid, and was last named in a senior matchday squad against Manchester City on December 22.

Liverpool have undergone a series of backroom changes over the past year, with the club's medical department coming under fire due to the frequent injuries being picked up by the squad.

Speaking in December, Ramsay voiced his frustration at his initial injury setback: “I’d just signed for the club and I just wanted to come in, get straight to work and start training and playing. I was out for a couple of months with that, but I just worked hard at the gym every day, tried to get back as fit as I could.”
