Calvin Bassey slated AGAIN as Rangers former star branded 'not good enough' by ruthless Ajax pundit

Calvin Bassey has come under more fire from Dutch pundits as he was hit with another stinging attack from a former Ajax boss.

Rangers landed a £19.6 million windfall which could rise to £23 million for the sale of the Nigerian international in the summer to Ajax. But the former Leicester City youth has been singled out for criticism by a number of Dutch football figures, making it a difficult start to life in Amsterdam for the former Ibrox favourite.

And the latest to have a pop is Dutch managerial stalwart de Mos - who has also been in charge of clubs including Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven, Werder Bremen, Standard Liege and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Ajax. He said: " Calvin Bassey has no insight, no speed of thought and he gets turned far too easily. He isn't good enough to compete at this level. There is no aggression in him. I also can't believe that Ajax spent that amount of money bringing in a player from the Scottish league."

Meanwhile, Rangers have been urged by Dutch icon Wim van Hanegem to target Ajax star Daley Blind if they want to break their Champions League duck - because he can't defend.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side need a footballing miracle to win by five goals or more which would put them into the Europa League. Ajax had a free weekend to prepare for the game, but they have been heavily criticised this season despite leading the Eredivisie by one point with a game in hand.

Former Manchester United star Blind was subbed in their 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool last week and van Hanegem - who was a World Cup runner-up in 1974 and went on to manage Feyenoord before becoming a TV pundit - has pointed out to Rangers where Ajax's weak spot is. He said: "Daley Blind can't defend at all. I said that years ago and they all got angry, but I was right.

"I didn't say he can't play football, but he can't defend at all. He doesn't know what to do. When a player like him can't read the game and see what is coming, then the opposition are already on their way."
